Pens and pencils! Show me the teacher who has never had her pens or pencils stolen! There’s no such teacher!

Kids are always coming to school without a writing utensil, so the number one, most useful item you can give a teacher is a pen or pencil (or a package of a dozen of them).

During the holidays, offer pens or pencils shaped like a candy cane, or give her a pencil with a Santa-shaped topper.

Sometimes you can find giant pens and pencils at the dollar store. These are great for loans, because a student can’t leave the classroom with a monster pencil without looking conspicuous.

For back-to-school, decorate a mason jar with a bright orange and yellow ribbon and fill it with ordinary number-two pencils.

Party stores tend to carry seasonal pencils–Halloween, Christmas, Easter-themed, etc…

Or take an ordinary pencil and decorate it yourself with colorful paper, pipe cleaner curly-cues, or paper pencil toppers.

One more thing, if you’re an English or reading teacher, you should visit my sister site, English Emporium, where I offer journal writing prompts.
